Gibtelecom signs advanced roaming management solutions agreement with MACH
Gibtelecom today announced, together with MACH and Link2One, expansion of its roaming services with foreign operators. This makes it possible for its customers to stay in touch on their Gibtelecom mobile, in an ever increasing number of countries, whilst travelling.
Gibtelecom has contracted with Link2One, the world’s largest open connectivity roaming hub, to increase the footprint of its GSM services by 60 operators in 25 countries. Gibtelecom customers can now enjoy roaming coverage with some 370 operators in over 120 countries, including all countries within the European Economic Area (EEA). Additionally, on 22 December GPRS (data) coverage will be increased to cover 140 operators (currently 88) in some 90 countries (currently 48) and to over 70 operators in over 50 countries in respect of 3G services. Furthermore, Gibtelecom expect to increase its roaming services for pre-paid customers, using CAMEL technology, in late January to 60 operators in 40 countries. Currently, this Reload service is available with Vodafone and Telefonica Moviles in Spain, with T-Mobile in the UK and Mobitel in Slovenia.
“Setting up roaming agreements is a complex lengthy process which up until now was arranged by Gibtelecom with individual operators. The beauty of expanding these arrangements by contracting with MACH is that Gibtelecom has been able to set up more roaming agreements with numerous mobile operators across the globe simultaneously, nearly doubling the number of countries where we offer data roaming” commented Brian Asquez, Director Resources at Gibtelecom. He added “Our customers, both business and residential are travelling further afield and Gibtelecom need to ensure they can keep in touch”.
MACH provides solutions to enable compliance with the increasing number of EU roaming regulations such as DataFuse, MACH’s anti bill shock solution which come into effect in March 2010. This new regulation requires operators to inform customers when they have reached a set limit when using data services when roaming.
The Near Real Time Roaming Data Exchange (NRTRDE) clearing platform enables Gibtelecom to comply with a new standard deployed within the GSM community which provides full visibility to roaming partners by forwarding call records in near real time. Furthermore this system facilitates limiting losses through the early detection of fraudulent roaming activity. As the largest provider of data and financial clearing solutions, processing more than 50% of the worlds roaming calls MACH’s data clearing solutions facilitates secure file processing and roaming data exchange to accelerate settlement processes and eliminate revenue leakage.
