Real-Time Roaming Data Capture (RTRDC)

Publication: 01.11.2007

Is your approach to NRTRDE efficient and cost effective? RTRDC has the answer.

RTRDC in a nutshell
Roamware’s Real-time Roaming Data Capture (RTRDC) service complements MACH’s offerings for NRTRDE, and resolves all identified issues surrounding CDR capture. It facilitates compliance with all the requirements of NRTRDE through its advanced feature capabilities and enables the creation of NRTRDE records in real time, even for long duration calls or failed call attempts. Its capture capabilities are deployed on a carrier-grade platform guaranteeing high-availability.

RTRDC can interface seamlessly with any NRTRDE transport network provider, such as MACH and in combination with the latter, presents a compelling value proposition to operators.

Roaming fraud has been a long-standing problem for mobile operators, with varying degrees of fraud occurring in every operator network across the world. This poses a threat to the financial health of operators, especially with constant competitive and regulatory pressures forcing down operating margins. Near Real-time Roaming Data Exchange (NRTRDE) has been defined as a means to effectively combat the menace of fraud proactively and help reduce operators’ exposure to losses.

In order to achieve compliance with NRTRDE, operators may be forced to make major investments in billing and mediation system upgrades, which are usually not designed for real-time operation and are rarely redundant. Such architecture is far from responding to the NRTRDE requirements of achieving continuous and rapid information processing under a 24x7 constraint. Furthermore, it may not be designed to deal with the recommended creation of partial records for long duration calls, failed called attempts or with specific call events (e.g. SMS over SGSN).

As part of the NRTRDE process, a NRTRDE study should analyse if the operator’s Billing and Mediation is able to cope with the following issues:

Is the operator’s Billing and Mediation set-up designed to run 24x7?
• Is there no downtime for ‘promotional’ settings or configuration change?
• Is there no downtime for system upgrade?
• Is there redundancy for assuring high availability?

Is the operator’s system able to deliver information in due time?
• Is it able to transmit all Call Event information within the NRTRDE agent’s requirement?
• Can it fulfil target requirements (4h-to-1h Information Exchange)?

Is the operator able to deliver all of the recommended information?
• Can the system create partial CDRs for long duration calls?
• Can the system process CDRs for all Call Flows including SMS over SGSN?
• Can the system access information on call attempts?
